Why Eat Vegetarian?

This is a good question, why would anyone want to eat just vegetables?

Your body is your motor so to speak, your life source, and what we put into it is clearly visible through your measure of health, well being and longevity. We all strive to live a quality life and age gracefully, so why not feed it foods that will aid us on our journey.

So why is it that In our Western society, a common nutritional belief is that meat and animal products must be consumed in order to maintain a well-balanced, muscle-building healthy diet.

As more and more studies are coming up about the detrimental aspects of non vegetarian food, many people are anxious to know how they can stay healthy without giving up their favorite non vegetarian delicacies.

One reason why eating a vegetarian diet is considered healthy is… to keep up a healthy level of Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C, it is important to eat fruits and vegetables in adequate quantities to prevent any deficiency from coming up.

If you have children, you may be wondering if a vegetarian diet is a sustainable, healthy choice for your child.

Well you could consider this, Vitamin B-12, which exists in meat, dairy, eggs, and poultry and is essential in the development of red blood cells and a healthy central nervous system. A major benefit of the vegetarian diet is that it tends to involve a healthy serving of fruits and vegetables, along with whole grains.

Then….

There’s this, nutritional research ha shown that a vegetarian diet can provide all the nutrients necessary for the development of a healthy child.

Here’s another interesting thought, animal foods are so high in protein that non-vegetarians can easily exceed the upper limit recommended for protein intake, which is 4. Obesity, one of the major health concerns in this country, can be addressed with a vegetarian diet, one that eliminates excess protein and animal fat consumption, and increases fiber in the form of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

And some animal rights movement fanatics, who are dedicated vegetarians won\'t even eat in restaurants that serve animal products. As you can see, some people take it to the extreme.

Here’s another interesting point on teens and vegetarian diets, Nutrients that are usually supplied by meat, dairy, and egg products must be worked back into a teen’s diet to meet the recommended dietary allowance for protein, calcium, iron, and vitamin B12. Therefore, it is important to limit the quantity of non vegetarian food products which may contain preservatives.

And what about the theory about our planet, in addition to doing good for our planet, you\'ll enjoy great health benefits by including more fruits and vegetables in your diet. Fruits and vegetables should be well mashed or puréed. Guacamole, a Relish plate of sliced vegetables (Crudités) and White wine.

Here’s a little story, one vegan reports that she was assured before the cruise that her diet would be no trouble; however, all she could actually eat was bread, lettuce, and an occasional baked potato. PETA along with the fervent efforts made by many organizations has raised the awareness of the public and interestingly encouraged them to tread on the path of trendy vegetarianism or prompted them to go all vegan, despite

What about the other family members?

Don’t change everything—your new vegetarian still needs to come to family meals and take the responsibility for the time it takes to eat and plan vegetarian meals. When you know how, it doesn’t take any longer to whip up a meal of vegtables, of some very tasty main course.

How to Make a Vegetarian Thanksgiving Dinner

Imaging Thanksgiving without the turkey? What would it be like? Well, it could be a meat-free Thanksgiving. Which can be a delicious alternative to the stuffed bird and giblet gravy?

What to do next

  1. Look through food magazines Browse the October and November issues and of magazines like Vegetarian Times, Country Living, Martha Stewart, Gourmet and Bon Appetit. Still you will be surprised at even non-vegetarian up-scale magazines usually feature a few vegetarian options for the holidays.

  2. Choose a featured dish Unlike in a meat meal, the main dish can be anything you choose. Select something dramatic for the wow factor --- a filo encased curry, an Indonesian stew, or a squash strata are just a few, examples of main dishes that make the dinner special.

  3. Plan the rest of your menu to compliment your main dish Don't try to use traditional mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce with a Moroccan or Mexican main dish. It will just sense like a Thanksgiving dinner that's missing the turkey. Instead, select side dishes that go with the style and theme of the main course.

  4. Use table decor to go with your food theme Think of your table as a set...decorate it to go with the "play" you're staging...an Indian meal, a Chinese meal, or perhaps a Native American meal. Be creative with color and decorations.

  5. Try out your recipes Unless the main dish is something you've made before, try making a smaller version of it before the big day. If you've never made a souffle', the day you're expecting 20 for dinner isn't the right time to learn!

  6. Choose music to go with your theme Background music can make your meal complete. Most public libraries have a good selection of international music. When in doubt, soft jazz or classical can fill in for themed music of any kind.
  7. Keep the spirit of Thanksgiving Even with a different menu, the holiday is still about thanks and gratitude. Consider having everyone talk about things for which they are grateful. After all, Thanksgiving sans turkey is still Thanksgiving!

Tips

  • Advise your guests know you are serving a special kind of Thanksgiving meal. Invitations with menus can get the word out before the holiday

  • Experiment with all new recipes in advance

  • Go and buy unusual ingredients well in advance of the holiday. You don't want to spend Wednesday afternoon searching the grocery stores for rose water or fresh ground cumin (hint -- try an Arabic market!)

  • Don't make an apology for your turkey-free meal. venerate the new experience and enjoy your family and friends!

  • Your library will probably have issues of food magazines from preceding years. Check them out for even more main dish and side dish ideas. Christmas issues are also a great place to look for festive recipes

  • And you can check out TOFURKY ROASTS which are herb and rice stuffed "turkey" flavoured roasts.

How to Become a Vegetarian Fast

Here’s how eradicate of meat from your diet the safely and without affecting your dietary requirements.

What you should do to progress into a vegetarian diet:

1. Think about why you want to go vegetarian, some of the reasons could include moral or ethical reasons, health reasons, environmental reasons or a amalgamation of any of these.

2. You can investigate the topic - read everything you can on vegetarian nutrition and vegetarianism in general. There is an abundance of information on the internet and in books. If you need to tell parents or a guardian about your choice, make sure you have some concrete research to back you up, as some people are very dead set against to the idea of vegetarianism.

3. Obtain some vegetarian cookbooks and find some vegetarian recipes that interest you.

4. Browse around supermarkets, food stores and health food shops and see the variety of vegetarian food that is available.

5. Start by eradicating red (more fatty) meat. You can eat one last meal with beef, etc. in it and then stick to your promise to not eat red meat anymore.

6. Wait a week and eradicate pork from your diet, again repeating the 'one last meal.’

7. Wait two to three weeks and eradicate chicken from your diet.

8. After a month to two months, eradicate any fish products (crab, fish, shrimp, lobster.)

9. Be sure to replace plenty of cheese (rennet-less obviously), dairy, legumes, nuts, and soy into your diet to make sure you get sufficient protein. Experiment with tofu, hummus, and different kinds of cheeses (with or without rennet, depending on how committed you are to no meat). Also, many familiar foods such as peanut butter are crowded full of protein.

10. Modify your cooking habits slowly from meat filled dishes to vegetarian ones.

11. Locate good meat substitutes. Some are not very realistic tasting so are better for the long time veggies who have forgotten the exact way meat tastes. Others tend to be much more realistic tasting, which is good for newer veggies.

Finding and starting on vegetarian recipes can be a fun and exciting experience, so get out there and check all the bookstores and get online and start compiling some wonderful vegetarian recipes, you’ll be amazed at how yummy they can be.
